Once I’d sent off the text, I let my forehead drop to the cool glass and waited. There was no movement, although I wasn’t sure why I expected there to be. I was sure she hadn’t been waiting for my text or thought that I’d be at the window watching like a creeper, but I watched anyway. As I exhaled, the window fogged, and memories of me and Bobby, breathing on windows and drawing faces, came into my head. I smiled as I recalled Cassie chasing us around the house for dirtying the glass that Di had just cleaned. It was a good memory, and I was surprised not to feel a knot in my stomach.

Simone:I don’t know what you mean. I’m a great driver! Burgers were the least I could do after what you did for Ethan tonight. He’s sleeping with a smile on his face… and next time I need to drive, we’ll go in my Fiat…and by the way, I meant to say, nice haircut.
